Default Minutes from Sept 28th B2B Committee Meeting - Sue Willmann, Secretary

Back to Basics Steering Committee Meeting Monday Sept. 28, 2009

We met at Robin Killion's home. Those present were Robin Killion, Bob and Rose Hoffman, Bev Longnecker, Carol Klein, Bob and Cheryl Floriano, Peggy Wooden, Sue and Chris Willmann.

We started the evening with recruiting a publicity person. We needed someone to help with getting the word out to the newspaper and radio station. Rose Hoffman volunteered to do that for the group.

We talked about our October 8th B2B meeting which will center on birds. Bob and Cheryl Floriano and Joyce Haynes will be out speakers. They will talk about bird feeding and bird appreciation. Bob Hoffman will give us some information on plants we can grow to feed the birds. We will have a bird calling contest as part of our entertainment. Jack and LeAnn Sours might be able to provide music. We are waiting to here from them. We will also have Gregg Sweeten at the meeting to give us recycling information. We had Bev Longnecker's report to review from her talk with Gregg. He can fill us in and maybe give us suggestions as to what B2B can do to help with the recycling efforts. Our refreshments for the meeting will be bird themed foods.

Next we moved on to the Farmers Market. Carol mentioned that quite a few people came to the market last Sat Sept 26th and looked over the Rocket Stove that was still there. The interest in the Rocket Stove has been very good. We talked over asking Comrade Simba if see if he could repeat his demo for the ones who missed it the first time. Carol had called Cobb Cottage to check on ordering the books on the Rocket Stove. We could purchase 11 books for $113.00 inchuding shipping. We decided the club would purchase the books so that we could have them for interested parties. She will order them. We thought if Comrade Simba could do his demo on October 17th the books would be here in time. Robin was going to email Comrade and ask him.

Carol also mentioned that having business cards for B2B would probably be a good idea. We all agreed it would be good to have some for all of us to be giving out, and for the Business Expo and other events. We liked the Farmers Market cards that we had purchased earlier so we are going to get a batch of cards. Carol will get those ordered.

Next on the agenda was setting up the Pet Parade Oct. 24th. We need people to help check the animals in. We will need an emcee for the parade and a couple of people to be making out the ribbons that day. We also will need a photographer. We hope to have the newspaper there that day. Bev said she would check into the ribbons. If we can't buy them we could possibly make them. We thought all the entrants in the parade should get a ribbon and maybe have three top categories that would win a prize. We were thinking of giving pumpkins as the prizes. We will talk about the pet parade at the October B2B meeting and see if people from the group will volunteer to help us out. We need to get some flyers made and put up advertising the event. Robin said she would make up some flyers. Chris Willmann had an idea for the market. He thought maybe having a mascot at the market handing out business cards( either Farmers Market cards or B2 B cards) would be something that we could do. We liked the idea and thought maybe he could be a bee like our B2B symbol that we have used. He could dress up on the Sat of Halloween and hand out treats.

Next we had a note from Becky Cunningham on the Faithful Friends Animal Advocates. We thought we could put up posters with pictures of the animals that need to be adopted at the market and at our meetings. We could have one of their members come and talk at one of our meetings sometime.
We briefly talked over the web site. Carol is going to look into that a bit more.

Bob Hoffman said that the library went well at the meeting, a few books got checked out. We thought that if someone has a book that they are putting into the library maybe they could give us a brief summary of the book at the meeting. Also we are going to try and share magazines at the meeting. If anyone has magazines that they would like to share they can bring them to the meeting. Anyone who wants to take them home can with the only stipulation being, that if you brought it to the meeting and no one took it then you would be responsible for taking it back home with you.

The last item mentioned was a Food Protection program being put on by the Missouri Extension at Mt. Vernon. It would probably be beneficial for vendors or some people from the group to attend. We will get the details and see about having someone go or maybe a group of us go together. Meeting adjourned.
